Guildford Theatre School

Achieve extraordinary things in the pursuit of excellence

A weekly school

The Guildford Theatre School provides fun filled classes in ballet, tap, jazz, singing, drama and musical theatre for all abilities, each Saturday during term time in the heart of Guildford.

We pride ourselves on being an intentionally small school with a strong family feeling and sense of belonging. This means we really know each and every one of our students and can nurture their learning journey with confidence and kindness.

We take our safeguarding and teaching duties very seriously and the GTS team embody the school’s ethos of excellence, where we know that a happy child is a child who can excel.

GTS is the perfect ‘one stop shop’, offering a broad range of performing arts classes for your child, all held in one place on one day a week.

Outstanding teachers who motivate and inspire

Your child will be inspired and motivated by our kind, highly experienced, industry trained, fully qualified teachers. Our welcoming faculty have trained at some of the nation’s most prestigious performing arts institutions including the Guildford School of Acting, Rose Bruford College, Bodywork Cambridge, Bird College and Mountview.

Public performances

Our students take part in public performances as part of the Guildford Summer Youth Project and the sell-out Guildford Theatre School showcases, held annually at major professional theatres in Guildford, which have included The Electric Theatre, the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and G Live, alongside yearly appearances facilitated by our friends at the Guildford Fringe Festival. Over the years, our students have performed in the West End, on national tours of musicals and operas, in professional pantomimes in Guildford, Windsor, Fleet, Godalming and Leatherhead, with Brendan Cole’s national tour, with the Barricade Boys, as well performing in charity galas at high profile venues including the Theatre Royal Windsor and G Live.

Nationally recognised qualifications

We build an integrated route to examination in all of our classes. Through inclusive approaches to stretch and challenge, our students are guided toward progression throughout the whole student journey. We have organised thousands of successful entries for examination since 2010.

Our students have the opportunity to be entered for examinations in all disciplines via nationally recognised boards such as the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and Trinity College London and by the time our students are at GCSE age and beyond, many are enjoying examinations at Grade 8 and Intermediate Level (QCF Level 3) with us.

As a Trinity College London exam centre, we were delighted to be named as one of the first Trinity Champion Centres for our successful delivery of Trinity qualifications, inspiring other organisations and advocating for accreditation.

We have proudly been a Recognised School with the Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre Training (CDMT) since 2011.

We recognise our children’s extraordinary achievements at the end of each year in our celebratory and inclusive end of year prize giving event.
